In recent years, Malawi has faced several cholera outbreaks, and in 2023 there were discussions about the government closing schools that lacked adequate toilet facilities. At Gift of Hope, we know how vital proper sanitation is for health, happiness, school attendance, and learning. That’s why we were proud to provide funding towards the construction of new toilet facilities, delivered by The Mlambe Project. Each pit latrine required substantial underground structure, and the toilet walls were built using The Mlambe Project’s trusted Stabilised Soil Block technique, a more sustainable alternative to burnt bricks or concrete blocks. The result was a strong, discreet facility with separate buildings for girls and boys, helping to create a safer and more dignified school environment.
